Workmen's Club
Introduction
The Workmens club is a section within the club whose members play social golf (but with a clear intent to win), usually on a Thursday evening in summer. It arranges a series of competitions complemented by some friendly matches with other clubs. Membership costs £5 a year to cover the costs of small prizes and administration.
The club is a descendent of the original Workmens club established by Lord Armstrong in 1904 at the same time as the main club its history is described in the centenary book. The club was merged into the main club in 1950s, but continued as a separate section. Its long history means that some of its trophies are amongst the oldest played for at Bamburgh. Where relevant the competitions also qualify for handicap purposes.
Anyone wanting additional friendly but competitive golf during summer is encouraged to join even if its just for one or two of the competitions or friendlies.
